I think in these cases the covering letter is pretty important – if you can convince the editor that you’ve engaged with (and addressed) the reviewers’ comments, they’ll wave it through with no further hassle.

I’m just hoping that the paper I’m currently preparing to submit is going to have an easier ride than the last one.
