I know virtually nothing about the geology of Madagascar.

I was wondering about that island in the upper left corner of the image too...it doesn't look like a purely depositional feature (e.g., barrier island)...maybe it is a reef, like Katie mentioned? Or, some other erosional remnant of the underlying geological situation?

I have no idea....I wish I had the time to find out now!

Ok - So the geologic controls on coastal sed transport are strange here. The weird rock-thing (it is early here) sticking out and making that strange pocket beach sort of thing...with a spit on the back side. But there is what looks like extensive reef here.
Do you know anything more about this area??

FYI My Madagascar River Figure

How Funny - I didnt even look at Madagascar as I have been looking at doing some work on the North part of the island and thought I knew the shoreline there - oh well. I did a quick look at all other sheltered N/S coastlines -- then decided I really should do some of the work I am being paid to do.

Thanks for the link!
